Thiepval War Memorial		THE SOMME BATTLEFIELDS Your visit to the Somme is a memorial trail..... Time, of course, is a healer and the once deep trenches and shell craters have been reclaimed by nature. The scenery here is like no other. There are museums here displaying rusting helmets and soldier's belongings, but the emotions have not changed. The landscape is even more evocative when one realises that the soldiers who fought here with such determination were, in some places, within calling distances from each other.
